Website audits are never 100% solid determining factors of good website functionality. Also, audit results can change over time, so a perfect score today might be less than perfect the next time I run the scan. That said, it’s not a simple feat to achieve a perfect score in an audit, so I need to celebrate, at least a little!
To be fully clear, I conducted the audits, shown here, using the front page of this website. The front page has the most complex layout and has more images and fancy features than other pages on this site. If that page does well in audits, then articles on this website that are mostly text are likely to do well also. I did actually test several pages but reporting all of the results would make this post unnecessarily long. If you want to know the results for a specific audit for a particular page on this website, contact me and I’ll send you the results, if you like.
In addition to that, I received a perfect score in GTmetrix which is a site that performs performance audits. I never fully trust one auditing tool. It’s best to use a few because they tend to prioritize different features.
This website also received 0 errors in Axe and Wave. Both of which are fairly comprehensive accessibility auditing tools.
This website received a carbon rating Grade A using the website carbon calculator, which means it is kinder to the climate than 90% of other websites! Read more information about the grading system. Read more about making a website more climate friendly. I have planted many trees over the years, but I will plant another to offset the carbon that this website generates. You might have also noticed that A is not A+. There is still room for improvement (although, I don’t think I can make this site completely static so I may not get all the way there). Nonetheless, I’m very pleased with this score. I’ve added a small script at the bottom of the front page of this website that monitors the carbon impact of this website. If it shows “No result” it simply means that the API needs time to collect data or is overloaded with requests this minute and should show results later on.
Although a perfect score in any automated audit doesn’t equal a perfect website, performing an audit does highlight features that need improvement. In fact, there are still things I can work on improving even on this website, and website requirements change over time. I do need to take all of this with a grain of salt.
It’s still very nice to see though!
